A Renowned Pearl
Archeologist found evidence suggesting that lands of Dubai was inhabited around 2500BC, during what is known as Umm-Annar period.The earliest mention of Dubai was recorded in 1095, in the Book of Geography by the Andalusian-Arab geographer Abu Abdullah Al Bakri.
Other Records
Like the journal of the Venetian pearl merchant Gasparo Balbi in 1590 when he mentioned the exceptional quality of pearls of “Dibai” village.
Living at that time relied mainly on fishing
Pearl trading, boat building, and providing services for traders passing through to sell gold, spices, and textiles. The next milestone in UAE history was in 1793 when Bani Yas tribe settles in the area.

Dubai Statistics Center (DSC)
