The UAE labour law includes a clear set of safety regulations for workers in each industry. For example, construction and industrial workers are not permitted to work during the hottest hours of the day during the summer, so as to prevent heat-related in injuries. Also, workers in all sectors are permitted to work two hours less per day during the holy month of Ramadan. Safety regulations are overseen by the Dubai Municipality and any business not following regulations are subject to fines or other penalties.
The Dubai Municipality also regulates the emirate’s environmental code. These regulations differ for each industry and cover topics such as hazardous waste, environmental permits for different sectors, the import of dangerous goods, and environmental building codes. Like with safety regulations, businesses found to be in operating outside of these regulations are subject to fines or penalties.
